Restrictive covenants

When you get a new job it’s easy to overlook the small print in your contract – until it’s time to move on and you discover there are limitations on what you can do.

If your employment has been terminated you may be offered a settlement – with terms that often include restrictions on your activities.

In either of these situations you’ll need to get an employment specialist to see if the covenant is fair. If it’s unreasonable it may not be enforceable.

What is a restrictive covenant?

It’s a clause in a contract or agreement that restricts your activities. This might be to stop you working for a competitor, to limit where you can work geographically or take on a specific role.

Before you start looking for a new job
