IPP prisoners
Even though the Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) sentence has been abolished, prisoners previously sentenced under this legislation still continue to be subject to the original sentence.

The statistics
There are more than 5000 IPPs, more than 3500 of these prisoners are being held behind bars long after their tariff expiry date. These prisoners have to await release until the Parole Board sanctions it. Currently the Parole Board is only releasing about 400 IPP prisoners a year.
Preparing for Parole Review
Each prisoner will need to prepare written representations and may need to bring independent experts in to speak on their behalf. This requires expert help and our specialist team will visit the prisoner to help them to prepare their written representations and advise on any assessments needed. Your case will be allocated to a member of our specialist team who will visit you before any hearing and represent you at the hearing itself.
