Protecting Online Assets
Do you maintain your Bank account and other assets online? Ever thought about how your relatives might access those accounts if you die unexpectedly? You might think that leaving details of access codes, PINs and passwords in your Will might be the answer. But be careful…..As soon as probate to a Will is granted it becomes a public document and fraudsters have been able to gain access to details of such assets and claim the funds before the executors.
Burglar alarm codes and keys to safety deposit boxes have always had to be protected and online access codes and passwords are no different. They should always be kept safe – one answer is to leave a sealed envelope containing these details with your will which will be kept in your solicitor’s strongroom and only released to the executors on your death.
Haven’t made a will yet? Perhaps now is the time!
